According to the newest DEER analysis, total turnover recorded by the Index increased significantly for the first three quarters of 2017, reflecting increased customer willingness to spend more than they were prepared to do in the same period of 2016.
There was a significant increase in turnover through the entire period analyzed, including September, which until now has always shown a slight decline. This year, the September turnover increased by 8.9% compared to last year. As expected, the highest growth was achieved during the summer, but it was also high in the spring. The highest recorded growth was in April, when a 16.41% increase was registered, and in June, which showed a 15.47 percent increase. All other months recorded an average increase between 6.5% and 7.5%.
A positive turnover index was apparent in all retail categories in the first nine months, except for the sport sector, which recorded a decline of 6.63 %. Remarkable results were achieved in the accessories and jewelry sector (19.28%) and the electronics sector (a 15% increase). The apparel industry recorded almost the same turnover as last year, but there was a slight increase of about 1.5% compared to the first nine months of 2016.
The Croatian retail market was quite exciting last year because of new shopping center developments and brand expansion. One of the most important developments on the Croatian market was the entry of discounters TEDI and Pepco, which now extensively list their stores. Other new store openings included Dogtas Exclusive, Grosbasket, TAPIQ, Pinko, Fashion Point, E Sport Arena, Menart Multimedia Bookstore, Samsung Brand Shop, Extra Sports and other smaller brands. Kaptol Center hosted a completely new cinema experience – Kaptol Boutique Cinema, which has had significant impact in this lifestyle, mixed-use center. Some brands have disappeared, but new arrivals and the expansion of the offer on the Croatian retail market, as well as steady growth, are expected.
